Journalists Versus A Thing Called Life.

What’s wrong with journalism? The Juan Williams firing and the responses from journalistic elites gives a perfect example of why so many publications are dying. Here’s Jen Reeves, an associate journalism professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia, explaining why it was appropriate for NPR to fire Williams:

“It’s confusing to the general public what journalism is anymore. Our job as journalists is to question the culture and present it to the general public to think about. But instead we’re constantly [playing up people’s fears].”

“The way Williams presented himself was at a level of personal opinion that, as a journalist, is not appropriate.”.

Heeeellllloooooooo – Since when has the press NOT PLAYED UP ON PEOPLES FEARS???????? Anyone else notice that virtually all the stories reported in the press are of a negative nature, of problems within society such as famine disease, or wars? Hurricanes? Tsunamis? Global Warming Anyone?????

I’m just amazed that these supposedly smart people didn’t have the foresight to take the topic that Juan Williams presented, the natural human condition of having irrational fears, and discussing the topic and ways of dealing with and conquering them. But Noooooo, they were just so stupidly politically correct that they let a wonderful journalistic opportunity go to waste, and fired Williams instead. And it’s insane, because part of the problem here is the news industry relies on  the rational AND irrational fears in order to attract attention to their product.

PS. Anyone not notice the fear NPR exudes when they are reporting about the imminent Republican takeover of Congress (by democratic means BTW).

NPR Versus Credibility.

In trying to justify the firing of Juan Williams, NPR CEO Vivian Schiller says this:

“… NPR’s ethics code [states]: ‘In appearing on TV or other media. … NPR journalists should not express views they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist. They should not participate in shows … that encourage punditry and speculation rather than fact-based analysis.”

“More fundamentally, ‘In appearing on TV or other media including electronic Web-based forums, NPR journalists should not express views they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist.'”

Naturally, being the information age, when anything that any other NPR journalists has said that represents “punditry and speculation rather than fact-based analysis” can be Googled… Well, lets just say bloggers are going to town exposing NPR’s management as the hypocrites that they are. I’ll link to the bloggers I come across as the day goes on.

Here’s Reason’s Michael Moynihan.

There.

I said it.

‘Cause you know that if it was FOX that fired him, no matter the reason, the left would be making that charge against that news channel.

Climate Change Secret Revealed!

I was reading this story at WUWT, and truth revealed itself…

gayclimate

By looking at the graphic as presented, it’s obvious….

CLIMATE CHANGE IS GAY!

This explains why liberals embrace it so.

You know, when ever I came across global warming, my gay-dar would always twitch a little. At first I though maybe my senses were a bit out of whack because of the extra warmth we’ve caused, so I had my gay-dar re-calibrated to compensate (not an inexpensive task I must tell you). But, I’ll be damned if it still didn’t pique my curiosity… There was just SOMETHING going on here that caught my queer eye. Now I can let out a sigh of relief!

Note, the colors are not quite a rainbow, but that is on purpose. Climate Change is still trying to hide the truth. It’s still in denial. Please Climate Change, don’t do anything rash like jump off a bridge or something. I promise… It gets better.

Death vs Math – UPDATE

Share Button

OK. This equation makes no sense.

They say that celebrity deaths come in three’s. First you had Barbara Billingsley who was every-mom Mrs Cleaver, then you had Tom Bosley aka every-dad Mr C. I WAS expecting one of the TV kids or a TV uncles to take the plunge… How the hell does Porn magnate Bob Guccione fit into this equation???????

UPDATE: Tarzan’s kid, from the 1940’s , has died. And so has one of the actors from the inferior “Dallas” knock-off “Falcon Crest“. But this really screws up the maths ’cause now we’re no longer dealing with “three’s”.

I’m not a witch, but I do have a bigger…. Uhm… Blog!

Global Warming Hysteria – I’m Thirsty!

Future droughts are going to be massive, so says a new study from somebody.

Increasingly dry conditions across much of the globe — including the U.S. — are likely over the next 30 years, a new study predicts. Moreover, by the year 2100 drought in some regions could be unprecedented in modern times.

Increasing drought has long been forecast as a consequence of warming temperatures…

And yet, as I’ve reminded people over and over again, worldwide precipitation has neither gone up or down in the last century.

…but the study from the National Center for Atmospheric Research projects serious impacts as soon as the 2030s. Impacts by century’s end could go beyond anything in the historical record, the study suggests.

“We are facing the possibility of widespread drought in the coming decades, but this has yet to be fully recognized by both the public and the climate change research community,” study author Aiguo Dai said in a statement. “If the projections in this study come even close to being realized, the consequences for society worldwide will be enormous.”

To get an idea of how severe droughts might get, scientists use a measure called the Palmer Drought Severity Index, or PDSI. A positive score is wet, a negative score is dry and a score of zero is neither overly wet nor dry.

And here’s the kicker:

The most severe drought in recent history, in the Sahel region of western Africa in the 1970s, had a PDSI of -3 or -4.

Uhm… Huh? So, the world has been warming during the forty years since this most severe drought EVER, and there hasn’t been another like it for all this time, and yet, by 2030, only twenty years from now, WE’RE DOOMED??????????………

The study’s findings are based on 22 computer models and the best current predictions of climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions.

Oh. Computer models. OK. Now I get it.

This could change depending on actual greenhouse emissions in the future as well as natural climate cycles such as El Nino, Dai said.

Translation – This is just a model. We can’t really predict this since we can’t reliably model the frequency or durations of natural phenomenon like El Nino or La Nina.

Saw the movie RED this week-end. It was fun. Helen Mirren stole the show.

My mother-in-law dodged a bullet. She redoing her roof. It rained to the north of us. It rained to the south of us. We only got one decent shower.

It’a amazing what you find when you clean your desk for the first time in eight months.

My trash smells like garlic. (yes, there’s garlic in it)

I’m thinking Sarah Palin will announce her Presidential run on February 14, 2011.

By June 2011, there will be a genuine progressive Tea Party movement (not one of the fake ones they’ve tried to launch this summer). It will be much more progressive leaning than the Democratic party has shown itself to be, and you might even see Ralph Nader resurrecting his political career to ride on its coattails.
