The Unfortunate Truth About Hero Charles Ramsey.

Before I continue, let me say I LOVE this guy! Not only because he’s a hero, but his interviews show him to be a true and honest guy. He is who he is, one of the many unique Americans that are around us every day!

But, unfortunately, he has a problem. You see, he lives in Cleveland, which is predominantly Democrat (the part of town where Ramsey livesvoted 80% for the imcumbent).  He goes to McDonalds, which, according to some GOP talkers,  is typical of many poor Democrats. He talks improper English, which is also said to be typical of Democrats. And, the worst part… He’s black, and 90 percent of African Americans vote Democrat.

So, if Ramsey is indeed a Democrat, and if you follow the latest meme about non-Republican voters spouted by the GOP since they lost to President Obama in November, Charles Ramsey is, most likely, a “low information voter”!

Right now, he’s a hero.  But in a few weeks, he’ll be back to being a “low information voter”. And just wait until Obama has him up at the White House!  That will certainly piss them off.

OK. I understand the bitterness that comes when the fates of politics don’t go your way. But I’ve been really ticked at a faction of the vocal Republicans and Conservatives who constantly label everyone who didn’t vote for Romney or the GOP in the last election as “low information voters”.  It’s insulting. If they are concerned at all about trying to win hearts and minds so that they can maybe attract more voters, this is the worst thing they can do. I will keep harping on this, and when the next election comes around, if they are still using this terminology, I will make sure that the general public knows of the contempt the modern GOP has for the average voter.

I think the word “hero” is thrown about way too easily. Heroism, to me at least, is something done at great personal risk, with no expectation of personal gain. This guy didn’t risk anything by simply opening a door, or whatever it was he did. Had he run into a burning building to save someone, sure, that’s heroic.

    I disagree.

He had no idea what was waiting for him when he broke into the house. For all he knew, one of the other brothers was in the house getting a gun to stop the intruder.

Note. I do agree “hero” is thrown about a little too casually. But in this case, I think it’s appropriate.

Being a neighbor he would have known the other brothers didn’t live there, and that the kidnapper was out.

    I still wouldn’t call him a hero.

Because he keeps tabs on the where-abouts of his neighbors, just like you and I do…

Oh, wait… I have a life and don’t have time to monitor every move my neighbors make.

How is he going to know for sure that all the bro are out of the house, or that they won’t come home while he’s breaking into the their house. They might conceal and carry for all he knew.

Think about it. How much do you know about your neighbors? How much do you think they know about you?

I suspect the answer to both questions is “not a much as you think”.

Certainly don’t know what they may have in their basements. But remember, he had barbecued with him before, I’m guessing more than once. Several of the neighbors seemed to know his pattern.

He did the right thing, definitely, I just don’t think it rises to the level of heroism.

Both political parties engage in their share of condescension towards whomever they deem “the ignorant class.”

On a separate note, heroes come in big and small packages. The world needs more heroes. Ramsey is very likable, humble, and honest, and I really don’t mind the media blowing his story out of proportion. The seldom get anything right anyway.
