The Gay Patriot Wars Cont. – NO PERSONAL ATTACKS!!!! (unless you are one of the conservative pigs)

This morning, just for the heck of it, I decided to check in on a certain site to see what is going on. On one post, a familiar liberal named Kevin writes this comment:

    1. Oh yes, along with those others great laws and bills waiting to become law – limitations on voting, taxation without representation, poll tax, establishment of state religion, no basic standards for teachers, make the display of female nipples illegal (arrest nursing mothers?).It also seems that, statistically, there’s a good chance that members of the gay community would be likely felons: In Mecklenburg county alone, there are about 35,000 gun permits. About 65% of that number includes convicted felons.Seems that sign makers will certainly benefit from this new law. If the bill passes with the “unless posted” provision, you can be sure that a large majority of public facilities and businesses will be posting those signs. That’s what happened when places like Ohio passed similar laws.

In keeping with the tradition of issuing personal attacks on the drop of a hat, NDT, the guy who accused me of wanting Gay Patriot author Dan Blatt to kill himself, predictably writes:

  1. Unfortunately, we’re already aware of the fact that Kevin and his “progressive” ilk malicious liars who have admitted they will say and do anything to character-assassinate and destroy political opposition. So since you and your fellow leftists have already stated you support lying to smear others, Kevin, who cares what you say? We also know you’re sexual perverts thanks to Filner and Weiner, so we should just treat you as sociopathic potential rapists.

And before Kevin can even respond to the first personal attack:

  1. Also, notice how the desperate liar Kevin runs away when challengedThat’s because liberals and “progressives” like Kevin are sick, sociopathic liars who don’t care about truth, don’t care about facts, and don’t care about anything other than getting government power.

Their sick lies are shown in Kevin’s rant. No links, no facts, just cut-and-paste lies from leftist hate groups like BlueprintNC that openly advocate assassination of opposition politicians and supporters.

Conservatives need to wake up. Liberals like Kevin are unhinged and psychotic individuals who, as they’ve shown with their reaction to the Zimmerman trial, advocate killing jurors, judges, law enforcement officials, and anyone who does not allow them to carry out their racist hate lynchings. Their Barack Obama ENCOURAGES them to carry out these death threats.

And so it goes. The authors of the blog that says it has this policy:

Remember that the people under discussion are human beings. Comments that contain personal attacks about the post author or other commenters will be deleted. Repeated violators will be banned. Challenge the ideas of those with whom you disagree, not their patriotism, decency, or integrity.

Will no doubt ignore it.

It is funny too, because one of the comments made in another blogpost says this:

V the K — that’s because rules are for other people, not Democrats. It’s also why they are terrified of Voter ID (it will prevent them from stealing elections).

Sigh.

PS. For those not aware of my battles and pleading with the admins of Gay Patriot to actually enforce their own stated policy, the background is here and here.

PPS. And yes, that is an Animal Farm reference.

I’m not really sure, here. Does a rating of 1 mean that Gay Patriot is in bad shape because of its ever-increasing partisan absurdity? Or does a rating of 5 mean that your coverage and commentary on what’s happening there is excellent?

If it’s the former, I’ll vote “1,” and if the latter I’ll register a “5.”

Friends I send to Gay Patriot to check it out and give their opinions are telling me they think GP is a mess, and that its commenters are lunatics.

How ironic (and very revealing) that they keep complaining liberal gays won’t date them or invite them to brunch. Turns out being part of an exclusive little clique was all they really wanted. Now that they’ve made one of their own for themselves, all their supposed principles and convictions are history.

Yes, it’s a shame that Gay Patriot has become the conservative equivalent of JoeMyGod and other such blogs. It’s not I am against such blogs existing, but the blog’s rules stated that is not the kind of blog they want. And several times Dan Blatt has pleaded for an exchange of ideas in a civil environment. For the last such appeal, it appeared that Dan was going to take some appropriate action. However, as far as I know that hasn’t happened.

I’ve made the decision to stop posting at Gay Patriot until it becomes clear that it is no longer to hostile to those with differing opinions (which I don’t see happening). I check in every now and then, and I notice that since many have left, it is becoming an echo chamber with the remaining posters patting each other on the back. Up until a couple of months ago, I took the other posters’ silence to NDT’s personal attacks and other acts of lunacy to mean they didn’t endorse these tactics and even opposed them, but didn’t want to play the role of a moderator. But then I saw more of the posters openly endorsing and supporting such tactics, or at best excusing it.

It’s a shame that a blog of such high quality has self-destructed as it has. And it’s unfortunate that the blog authors are unable or unwilling to do anything about it.

And it’s unfortunate that the blog authors are unable or unwilling to do anything about it.

I think they try… Kind of… But their attempt is tepid at best. I know through e-mail correspondence with Dan they have “warned” him several times. They don’t want to upset the proverbial apple cart. If they do what their own rule says they should and ban NDT, they know they will lose several other commenters / sheep who hang on his every word. Too many of the regulars absolutely support NDT and his “style” of argument, even though it’s often nothing but ad-homs, logical fallacies, and often pure blather and nonsense.

Sonicfrog, I agree that the blog author’s did make attempts, but were tepid at best, as you put it. I also heard that Dan warned, or at least asked, NDT to knock it off. And apparently, each time, NDT promised to knock it off. But either NDT lied to his friend, or somehow believed that his actions were justified and did not break the rules.

As I see it, even though they saw that NDT was the main problem, they did not ever specifically and publicly single him out. It was usually a general call for civility. When it was more specific (usually by ILoveCapitalism), the posters who attempted to defend themselves (yourself included) were equally rebuked with NDT. And the one time I recall ILC calling out NDT specifically, he followed it up by saying something like “however, NDT made excellent points in the rest of the post,” which undermined any warning.

I don’t know if NDT being specifically singled out would have made a difference, but I believe a couple of such attempts should have been made. Then if that didn’t work, banning NDT would have been appropriate, and perhaps the only sensible choice. Regardless, it appears the blog authors believe that having NDT as a participant in their blog with his egregious behavior and having the blog turn into the disaster that it has become, was better than banning him.

I once held out hope that the moderators had some modicum of sensibility. After a recent email exchange with one of the moderators (while I no longer comment at GP, I am in communication with the site behind-the-scenes), I have officially given up.

The exchange involved the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman situation. The moderator claimed that the only good coming out of the debate/controversy was from some conservatives. I asked him if he could share exactly what was that good he spoke of.

I’ve been waiting for a response for almost a week (after a steady back-and-fourth over about a day or two). This was also the moderator whom I had always deemed (assumed, I guess) the most sensible of the moderators. It has become apparent to me that I had been projecting logic onto him all along. His blog is going down the toilet and he doesn’t appear to care. That’s his prerogative, though. It’s a free country. And GP is a tragic, hot tranny mess. May she go out with a bang.
