I'm Baaaaaaack!

Of coarse, judging from the voluminous mass of readers that flock to my little corner of the blogiverse, not more than maybe three people will notice.

I had a great time in Washington state visiting my mum and family for the Thanksgiving weekend. As is often the case when I travel, I spent more time than I should have trying to fix computers (moms turned out better than bros). Still, I got to hang out with my brother and his kids, Matt, Chickie, and Jose, and got to spend gobs of time with my sister and her little ones Dustin and Neyna. I watched them both play soccer matches on Saturday. Both teams won. On Monday night, they tried to teach me how to play “Monkey Golf” on Nintendo Game Cube. I lost. Oh well. Meanwhile, Matt-man has come down with a bad case of “British Cancer” and now can only speak with a proper English accent. I also got to take my mom to one of the local Indian casinos (she calls it a “health spa”) and, as I was losing twenty two sum-odd dollars, watch as she won $320 dollars off a two penny machine.

As always, the trip was too short and things were left undone. I did clean out the roof gutters at my moms, but didn’t get around to hanging curtain rods for mom. For all the trips I’ve taken to the area, I STILL have not been to Mt. Rainer or had a meal in the Seattle Space Needle. But alas, there are things that must be done here at home, and I’m glad to be back. Will write more soon.

PS. Memo to self - Never again pack your laptop and phone and forget to bring their respective chargers. I just spent FOUR DAYS of hell without these devices.

Gotta go!

(Ooops. I think I just mispelled Steve’s name – will correct soon)

Busy day today. Have to service one pool, get together with Chris Plays Guitar and practice for the reunion, then pack my bags and fly out to Washington to visit family. Now that I have my own YouTube page to play with, I will have more vids and music posted soon. Hope everyone had a great T-Day!

Going Nuts With Video Posts On Thanksgiving.

It’s a very nice day weather-wise on this Turkey-Day. In fact, the weather here in Fresno is typically very boring, California sunshine and all that. But every one in a long while something happens to break up the monotony of nice days. Here is some video I shot of the big storm that came through last month. It very much reminded me of some of the storms we had in Dallas when I was growing up; complete with lightning, wind, and hail. Though we didn’t get one this time, the dark color of the clouds is typical of the types of storms that would produce a funnel cloud or two.

PS. I have been having problems posting some of my vids from my sonicfrog server, so I have just created a YouTube account  to host my vids. This will make it a lot easier to share stuff. The account is named “sonicrogdotnet”. I wanted to use “sonicfrog” but some jerk already took that name in 2006, and to rub it in, he has only posted two vids when he signed up, and hasn’t posted anything else since. They need to kick him out!

Yay!!! YouTube is working. Here you go.

Sully is having a best and worst music video contest at his site. While on the topic, he linked to an article profiling a guy by the name of Russell Mulcahy. He directed many of the defining videos in the golden age of music video, including most (if not all) of the superb Duran Duran videos, and the all time classic “Video Killed The Radio Star”; the first video played upon the launch of  MTV. Here is a list of the videos he directed. This guy pretty much defines the age of MTV…  back when they played, you know, music videos; back when MTV was good.

PS. I wonder if the guy who directed this video (love those pants) is the same guy who directed this video? And while we’re talking about Mr Mister – come on guys, everyone else is doing it – you really need to get on the reunion bandwagon!

Political Ramblings. UPDATE!

This type of probe should have happened long ago over the “Oil For Food” fiasco. Yes I know the UN did investigate O.F.F., but I’m not sure if I would classify that as an honest attempt to hold ALL those involved accountable (though someone is paying the price). Meanwhile, on this side of the pond, former Bush admin. press secretary Scott McClellan is SHOCKED, SHOCKED I TELL YOU that he gave false information at some of the press briefings he presided over. He’s upset that he had to provide spin for the goings-on in the White House? Isn’t that kinda part of the job of the press secretary?

UPDATE: If Karl Rove is like the bus driver and the Bush administration is the bus, it looks as if the bus driver has, well, thrown the bus under the bus!

PS. I have some music and video that will be posted by the end of the day. Stay tuned.

Weblog Award for Best Science Blog is up for grabs. Bad Astronomy and Climate Audit are leading the polls, with Bad Astronomy currently leading by a few hundred votes. I won’t tell you how to vote, but if you look at my collection of links, you will notice only one of the two are linked on my blog, so you can probably figure out which one I voted for…

OK. I lied. Go vote for Climate Audit now or I’ll…. I’ll….

Three Quick Predictions – One Good, One Bad, and…

Share Button

… one that may already be coming true.

Let’s start with the latter.

Prediction 1: It’s not really a prediction, but more of a warning. It involves Pakistan. Musharraf has declared martial law, apparently to quash a supreme court ruling that may have prevented him from running run president in the upcoming elections. Musharraf is doing all he can, using any means possible, to hold onto power. He is cracking down on pro-democratic factions who say that the constitution forbids a sitting general from holding the presidency. Meanwhile, the Taliban, al-Qaida and other radical Islamic sects taking shelter within the country’s moutainous regions, will only continue to gain public support through Musharrafs latest actions. While everyone else and their mother’s dog has been kvetching about Iran and their desire to acquire nukes, I have been saying that the greater threat, by far, is an Islamist revolt in Pakistan, which already has nuclear weapons. Let’s hope the pro-democratic forces are stronger.

Prediction 2: The Good One – The Iraqi government will soon formally request that the US start drawing down it’s forces in Iraq. Bush has always said that when we are asked to leave, we will leave. And if the Iraqi’s did ask us to skedaddle, that would be about as close as we’re going to get to being able to declare victory in this conflict – as long as the request was issued on good terms. That would be good for all concerned, unless, of coarse, the sectarian violence (sounds like the name of a race horse) bubbles back to the surface, in which case…. screw em’; it’s their problem now. Can you tell I’m sick of dealing with this mess?

Prediction 3: You think gas prices are high now? Watch Out!!! Immediately following the second prediction, the Iraqi government will announce they have made a deal, signing off all oil production rights to Russia. The Iraqis would have more control over drilling operations and keep more of the profits generated by their oil reserves under Russian contracts than they would under western oil conglomerates. The Russian, who already have oil deals with Iran in the works, would be happy to make nothing if they had to because this deal would be a stick in the eye of the United States.

Now have a nice day.
