I&#8217;ve been proving this for years!!!!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>[youtube -AfPa1_vOzg]<\/p>\n<p>One time, while playing gig at &#8220;The Starline&#8221;, one of the bigger venues in Fresno, my band &#8220;Tribe Called Mike&#8221; were playing a cover of the Eagles&#8217; <em>&#8220;Hotel California&#8221;<\/em>. We played the song in a double time reggae style, and it worked quite well for me, since the bass line is a reggae line anyway. Well, during the last verse, Don Henley sings a lyric:<\/p>\n<p><em>Mirrors on the ceiling,<br \/>\nThe pink champagne on ice<br \/>\nAnd she said we are all just prisoners here, of our own device<br \/>\nAnd in the masters chambers,<br \/>\nThey gathered for the feast<br \/>\nThey stab it with their steely knives,<br \/>\nBut they just cant kill the beast<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well, I got to that part, and instead of singing &#8220;<em>They <strong>stab<\/strong> it with their steely knives,<\/em>&#8220;, it came out <em>They <strong>steel<\/strong> it with their steely knives,<\/em>&#8220;. The Sonic-Mate has NEVER let me forget that one!<\/p>\n<p>There is an old trick that helps if you forget the lyrics while performing &#8211; start singing like Michael Stipe from REM. You know he&#8217;s singing something, and they must be the right lyrics, because he&#8217;s singing them and he wrote them. But, except for the occasional &#8220;striaght off the bus&#8221; and &#8220;radio free europe&#8221; you can&#8217;t hardly understand a word that is coming out of his mouth! And love those Rickenbachers!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;RareForm&#8221;, my San Diego band, has always had a knack for playing REM songs. After years of hearing me beg and plead, we&#8217;ve FINALLY added this song to our set list.
