Definition of Civilization is<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An advanced state of intellectual, cultural, and material development in human society, marked by progress in the arts and sciences, the extensive use of record-keeping, including writing, and the appearance of complex political and social institutions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did marriage increase mans intellectual state?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nope.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did marriage cause an increase in either art or science?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nope&#8230; Though sometimes art has been inspired by ones mistresses or\u00a0forbidden\u00a0loves!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did marriage spur the need for\u00a0extensive use of record-keeping?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nope&#8230;. \u00a0Or at least not until prenups and divorce became more common.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did marriage induce\u00a0the appearance of complex political and social institutions?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You know the answer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Civilization does not suddenly go away if marriage suddenly did not exist.
