OK. Let&#8217;s first look at the reasons <em>us lefties<\/em> were being cautious about using the drugs.<br><br><strong>First:<\/strong> The evidence that they work for Covid infection is scant. Some research suggests they work in-vitro (in a test tube) but the two main studies on this that show any results are, to put it mildly, <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedmedicine.org\/hydroxychloroquine-and-azithromycin-versus-covid-19\/\">crap<\/a>. The isn&#8217;t much of a control group, and the PCR (polymerse chian reaction) tests that indicate Covid infection, are mishandled. This doesn&#8217;t mean the drugs DON&#8217;T work, but the evidence that they do are anecdotal and further study is needed. <br><br><strong>Second<\/strong>: These drugs do have side effects, and the drugs can interfere with other drugs. <br><br><strong>Third:<\/strong> There have been several people who were injured and a few had died because this irresponsible President singled out the drugs in a press conference, making them sound like magic bullets to fight Covid. That was irresponsible at best. I&#8217;m hoping that the FDA&#8217;s approval of the drug is science based and not due to political pressure. It&#8217;s not like that hasn&#8217;t happened before.<br><br>In short; <em><strong>us lefties<\/strong><\/em> are not opposed to researching the use of the drugs to see if they&#8217;ll work, or even using them in the field under strict supervision. Use whatever tools are needed. But don&#8217;t overhype.<br><br>Now, on the the charge that <em><strong>&#8220;you lefties would rather Trump fail at any cost.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the timeline on what <strong><em>us lefties<\/em><\/strong> and the horrible Trump-hating news media have been saying since the virus was first identified in China:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>DEC 30 &#8211; This could be bad. We need to take it seriously.<\/strong><\/li><li><\/li><li><strong>Repeat for February and March.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>What was Trump saying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2020\/03\/trumps-statements-about-the-coronavirus\/\">during this time<\/a>???<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jan. 22:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe have it totally under control.&nbsp;It\u2019s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It\u2019s going to be just fine.\u201d \u2014 Trump in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/01\/22\/trump-on-coronavirus-from-china-we-have-it-totally-under-control.html\">CNBC interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jan. 30: \u201c<\/strong>We think we have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment \u2014 five \u2014 and those people are all recuperating successfully. But we\u2019re working very closely with China and other countries, and we think it\u2019s going to have a very good ending for us \u2026 that I can assure you.\u201d \u2014 Trump in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/01\/30\/trump-close-cooperation-china-coronavirus-109701\">speech<\/a>&nbsp;in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 10:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cNow, the virus that we\u2019re talking about having to do \u2014 you know, a lot of people think that goes away in April with the heat \u2014 as the heat comes in. Typically, that will go away in April. We\u2019re in great shape though. We have 12 cases \u2014 11 cases, and many of them are in good shape now.\u201d \u2014 Trump at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-white-house-business-session-nations-governors\/\">White House<\/a>. But that\u2019s around the corner.\u201d \u2014 Trump in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-national-border-patrol-council-members\/\">speaking<\/a>&nbsp;to National Border Patrol Council members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 23:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe have it very much under control in this country.\u201d \u2014 Trump in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/factba.se\/transcript\/donald-trump-press-gaggle-marine-one-departure-february-23-2020\">speaking to reporters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 24:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThe Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC &amp; World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!\u201d \u2014 Trump in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1232058127740174339\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 26:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cSo we\u2019re at the low level. As they get better, we take them off the list, so that we\u2019re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to come to that, especially with the fact that we\u2019re going down, not up. This is like a flu&#8221;; &#8220;Now, you treat this like a flu&#8221;; &#8220;It&#8217;s a little like the regular flu that we have flu shots for. And we&#8217;ll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 27:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cIt\u2019s going to disappear. One day \u2014 it\u2019s like a miracle \u2014 it will disappear.\u201d \u2014 Trump at a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-meeting-african-american-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House meeting<\/a>&nbsp;with African American leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 29:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cAnd I\u2019ve gotten to know these professionals. They\u2019re incredible. And everything is under control. I mean, they\u2019re very, very cool. They\u2019ve done it, and they\u2019ve done it well. Everything is really under control.\u201d \u2014 Trump in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-2020-conservative-political-action-conference-national-harbor-md\/\">speech<\/a>&nbsp;at the CPAC conference outside Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 4:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201c[W]e have a very small number of people in this country [infected]. We have a big country. The biggest impact we had was when we took the 40-plus people [from a cruise ship]. \u2026 We brought them back. We immediately quarantined them. But you add that to the numbers. But if you don\u2019t add that to the numbers, we\u2019re talking about very small numbers in the United States.\u201d \u2014 Trump at a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-vice-president-pence-coronavirus-briefing-airline-ceos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">White House meeting<\/a>&nbsp;with airline CEOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 4:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWell, I think the 3.4% is really a false number.\u201d \u2014 Trump in an interview on Fox News, referring to the percentage of diagnosed COVID-19 patients worldwide who had died, as reported by the World Health Organization. (See our item \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2020\/03\/trump-and-the-coronavirus-death-rate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump and the Coronavirus Death Rate<\/a>.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 7:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cNo, I\u2019m not concerned at all. No, we\u2019ve done a great job with it.\u201d \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2020\/03\/08\/trump-response-coronavirus-washington-dc\/4994189002\/\">Trump<\/a>, when asked by reporters if he was concerned about the arrival of the coronavirus in the Washington, D.C., area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 9:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cSo last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life &amp; the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!\u201d \u2014 Trump in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1237027356314869761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 10:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cAnd we\u2019re prepared, and we\u2019re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.\u201d \u2014 Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-meeting-republican-senators-2\/?utm_source=link&amp;utm_medium=header\">after meeting<\/a>&nbsp;with Republican senators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. <strong><em>&#8220;Stay calm. It will go away.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mar 13<\/strong>: \u201cNational emergency, two big words.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mar 13:<\/strong> \u201cI take no responsibility at all<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the denial and pseudo-acknowledgement of the true nature of the situation goes on and on through the month, until yesterday, March 31st. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was Trump doing to stem the spread of the virus? It&#8217;s not as if he wasn&#8217;t doing anything, but he wasn&#8217;t taking the threat seriously. Our Federal leadership have been weeks behind individual states, and countries, that did heed the warning. In both words and action, it&#8217;s stunningly clear to all but his cult followers that President Trump was not treating this with the same urgency that us lefties were screaming at the top of our lungs to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Because you lefties would rather Trump fail at any cost.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No. We <strong><em>DIDN&#8217;T<\/em><\/strong> want him to fail. We desperately wanted him <strong><em>NOT<\/em><\/strong> to fail here. Because failure meant death.
