The original version is “Born In The 50’s” by the Police. I reworded it to represent my generation, and performed it while singing and bassing for my college band “Out Of Hand” in the early 90’s. Posted on Sonicfrog in response to a recent post at Althouse.
♫We were born, born in the sixties
Born, born in the sixties
My mother cried
When Elvis Presley died
She said it was the CIA, But I knew better
Would they drop the bomb on us
while we drank “Sex On The Beach”
We were the class they couldn’t teach
‘Cause we knew better
We were born, born in the sixties
Born, born in the sixties
We screamed
when the Police sang
But Sting went solo and broke up the band
Oh, they should have known better
Oh we learned to break dance
We wore parachute pants
Then we found our faith and prayed to Tammy Fae
We should have known better
We were born, born in the sixties
Born, born in the sixties
We streaked our hair blonde & dressed like the freaks on MTV
We stood in line for hours to watch Jaws, Star Wars, and ET
Ron and Nancy said “Just Say No”
To cocaine and angel dust
You don’t understand us
I am not the Walrus
We’re wreaking the future
We all became teachers
We were born, born in the sixties
Born, born in the sixties…. ♫
Vigilante justice only works in the movies. The Drugde Report provide us with not just one, the obvious one, but two examples of the unintended, but in these cases at least, perfectly predictable consequences of taking the law, or your version of it anyway, into you own hands:
1.O.J. Simpson. So he gets away with murder, but may end up dying in prison for trying to get back some of his trinkets. The irony is not lost here at Sonicfrog.
2.Boy George. In the song “Karma Kamelion” Boy George sings he’s a man, without conviction…. It looks like thats about to end.
If you really want the best chance to walk away from stuff like this, you should get tried in LA. Ask Baretta. Ask Phil Spector. And O.J., you of all people, ought to know this.
PS. Woo Hoo!!! I got Annalanched!!! That’s the second major blog link. The first was Instapundit. Now, if I can just get linked to one more major blog, say Volokh or Sully, I will have achieved the Trifecta.
For a long time, the scientists have been telling us global warming increases the temperature of the top layer in the ocean, and that causes the average hurricane to become a lot stronger. So, the fact that the ocean temperatures did go up because of global warming, because of man-made global warming, starting around in the seventies and then we had a string of unusually strong hurricanes outside the boundaries of this multi-decadal cycle that is a real factor; there are scientists who point that out, and they’re right, but we’re exceeding those boundaries now.
“535 Christmas Songs! 1.9 Gigs? Mainly Classic Songs, Family Safe.”
I came across this while looking for my favorite childhood Christmas album, Harry Simeone’s original 1963 recording of “The Little Drummer Boy”. Be careful when you’re searching for Christmas music. The music may be family safe, but the search… well, er, let’s just say this matches the theme of the day!
