God I Love Music! Pt 1,452,322

Yesterday I was wasting some time just surfing the net, and came across this gem from Mike and the Mechanics.

First, before I go any further, I must mention that Mike Rutherford is a HUGE influence on my bass playing. Very under-rated. At :54 seconds in, listen to the way the bass lays down the descending scale while the guitar plays the same two chords…. Brilliant. Paul Carrack is a musical virtuoso, can play about anything, and is vocal GOD. So much soul! I should have payed more attention to Paul Young, who, sadly, is no longer with us.

Anyway…. While listening to the song, I asked myself “Hmmm, I wonder if I can play this?”. So I surfed the net and found several websites with the chords… or supposedly the chords to the song! I picked up the guitar and started trying to play the song according to the pages, but, as is the usual with so many internet chord pages, they were wrong! So I started plucking the string until I found the root and the fifth, and, after putting the capo on the first fret, I was suddenly off to the races! I’m not sure what the middle walking scale at 2:41 is yet, but I’ll figure that out soon enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a bass player, and will always be a bass player. I’m proud to be in that club. But playing / learning to play guitar is so much fun! It feels like a whole new world of music is opening up before my eyes!

Trying Too Hard

There is so much going on in the world right now, yet I just can’t seem to get motivated to write about any of it. The more I try, the more locked down I get.

Surly I must have some thoughts on Egypt!

My only thought on Egypt are….

• Good for them.
• And it’s funny that the same people who were for democratic uprisings in 2001 – 2010 (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc) are now going ape shiite and lamenting over Egypt. Apparently, overthrowing autocratic regimes and installing democracies in the Middle East is only a good thing when we are in a position to bully the process for an outcome more to our liking. The situation in Egypt is completely out of our control… As it should be.

That’s all I got. I have more detailed thoughts and should be able to expand on that, but the motivation just is not there. So  I’m taking a few days off from blogging….  Which can only mean I’ll be back tomorrow with a really long post!.

PS. I will be back with two really long posts. But they were started a couple of weeks ago and just need some touch-up.  So, in my mind, they aren’t “new” posts, just unfinished business.

Keep in mind we’re minus one band member, brilliant guitarist / musician Steve Kuykendall, who had to leave early to perform with one of his other bands. Early on, there was a whole in the harmonies where he would normally be singing, so I dumped what I was doing and sang his instead.

I may sometimes have my quibbles with Andrew Sullivan, but as he did with the protests in Iran, he and the crew at The Dish is doing an excellent job of covering the current unrest / unraveling occurring in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Rush is on in the background, and he’s ragging on the First Lady’s good nutrition initiatives.

Another Global Warming scare may be biting the dust… or debris:

Researchers have discovered that contrary to popular belief half of the ice flows in the Karakoram range of the mountains are actually growing rather than shrinking.

The discovery adds a new twist to the row over whether global warming is causing the world’s highest mountain range to lose its ice cover.

It further challenges claims made in a 2007 report by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that the glaciers would be gone by 2035…

“Our study shows that there is no uniform response of Himalayan glaciers to climate change and highlights the importance of debris cover for understanding glacier retreat, an effect that has so far been neglected in predictions of future water availability or global sea level,” the authors concluded.

Dr Bookhagen said their report had shown “there is no stereotypical Himalayan glacier” in contrast to the UN’s climate change report which, he said, “lumps all Himalayan glaciers together.”

The problem with climate science isn’t so much smug scientists such as James Hansen, Gavin Schmidt or Kevin Trenberth.. they are vigorously defending their work, which all scientist must do. The problem lies with the IPCC, the UN political organization that sets up the manufactured “consensus”, which throws roadblocks against anyone not considered a part of the consensus.

File Under Birther Blunders – Celebrity Gossip Columnist Makes A Fool Of Himself.

That would be Celebrity Gossip Columnist Mike Evans. Here’s the headline:

Listen very carefully to the audio featured on the FOX blog. He says:

“Yesterday, talking to Neil’s office, Neil says that he searched everywhere using his powers as governor ….. there is no Barack Obama birth certificate in Hawaii. Absolutely no proof at all that he was born in Hawaii.”

Mr Evans is talking about Hawaiian Governor Neil Ambercrombie searching everywhere at the two hospitals and he can’t find any other documentation.

Note To Evreyone – The birth certificate WILL NOT be at the hospital… It will be at the State Health Department! Note too that Evans DOES NOT specifically say that Ambercrombie says there is no birth certificate, says rather that there are no documents that he can find at the hospital. Again the birth cert won’t be at the hospital. That part is very very important. So, either Evan’s is jumping the gun and misinterpreting the comment, or he’s purposely stretching the true to get a scoop where none exists. Note too that Evans does not have any of this on his web site. I’m thinking he’ll be backtracking in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…

Oh Look!!!!! He’s backtracking!!!!! He misspoke!!!!!…

And, as I blogged before, remember that the former governor, who is on record (no backtracking) that she HAS seen and held the long form certificate, is a republican. It’s not just that she’s a Republican for it’s own sake. Given that at any time, during the 2008 campaign, especially after he won the nomination, I just can’t think of a reason why she would say she had seen it when she hadn’t. I mean, she could have tripped up his campaign to ensure that McCain won the Presidential election. And, if there is no cert, she would simply be being honest. It just makes no sense that she wouldn’t.

He didn’t speak with Ambercrombie!!!!!! He’s just filling in blanks with gossip spread by WND!

OK. Not to toot my own horn… But… Note that I typed the entirety of this post before I came across THIS! Quote:

“Only this I can you tell you is 100 percent fact: that Neil never told me there was no birth certificate,” Evans told Fox News. “I never talked to him.”

And:

Evans says he first noticed the story on Jan. 18, when he was reading an online article with the headline, “Hawaii governor can’t find Obama birth certificate.” The article cites an interview with a former Honolulu elections clerk who says records of Obama’s birth could not be found at either Honolulu hospital.

“Halfway down the story it said the long form certificate was not on file at the two hospitals,” Evans said. “It says the hospitals say there’s no birth certificate and says Neil says he couldn’t find it.”

And just where do you think that headline appears????????
