“IMPORTANT: sonicfrog.net has been suspended”

That could happen… In fact, I’m surprised it hasn’t already. BUT, here-in lies the rub!

“from admin@sonicfrog.net ”

Um…. I AM the administrator of sonicfrog.net! And I don’t recall suspending myself.

Come on spammers! You’re going to have to do better than this!

Compression?

Here is a wonderful write-up on the art of using compression in audio mixing. As I record my solo project, I’ll post useful stuff like this as I come across it.

“lol… why the 69, Mr. IBM”

Why??? It makes no sense considering the dark rocking goodness of the song on which the comment was found. I guess I’m trying to make sense of the world where there is none.

Name It!

Share Button

OK. This is my little studio, such as it is, where most of my little solo album thingy is being recorded. But, I just realized, all studio’s are named! The Beatles had Abbey Road…. Elvis used Sun Studios… Hendrix, the Record Plant Genesis recorded at Hit and Run… My studio doesn’t have a name…. What should I call it?????

And PS.  I’m done with politics for the week. Now, it’s time to once again concentrate on recording stuff. I’m throwing everything I think I know about studio recording out the window and relearning what to do. I think I’ve been trying to master each individual track, instead of putting things together first, then working that out.

AlGorealized And Demoralized! The Day After “Reallity”!!!

Share Button

Right now, Al Gore is doing his “24 Hours Of Alternate Reality”, where he has a media feed set up to stream from all parts of the globe to once again lecture us about global warming.

The goal? To scare the BeJesus out of everybody and change the way we live and  become a third world economy because he says so!!!!

As if on que, a radio host on KYNO 940 yesterday bit on a typical scare tactics used by the Al Gore types to jolt people into line on Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming Panic… Increase in Extreme Weather!!!

Let’s get one thing straight – Their is no data supporting the notion that there has been an increase in severe weather, or that global warming is causing the extreme weather we are seeing!

More hurricanes.. Or stronger ones??? Nope. And Nope. (both peer reviewed)

Drought??? Moscow? Nope. (NOAA) Southwest? Nope. (peer reviewed)

The droughts that have recently occurred in the southwest were not out of the norm.

In both instrumental and paleoclimatic records, periods of sustained
drought in the Southwest have often been concurrent with
elevated temperatures. The warmest such episode, in the mid-
12th century, was more extensive and much more persistent than
any modern drought experienced to date, [which falls smack dab into the Medieval Warm Period, a climate event the bulk of climate science want to pretend never happened]

Can’t speak to the Texas drought, yet (*revisited toward the end of the post), but if the trend in peer reviewed scientific studies of other droughts are any indication, this will not be blamed on global warming either. It’s called weather, and natural variability.

More snow??? The “warmer climate means more rain and snow due to an increase in evaporation rates” sounds reasonable enough… Until you realize that that wasn’t what they were thinking just ten years ago. In a March 2000 article in The Independent, the British paper reported this:

Britain’s winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives.

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.

The first two months of 2000 were virtually free of significant snowfall in much of lowland Britain, and December brought only moderate snowfall in the South-east. It is the continuation of a trend that has been increasingly visible in the past 15 years: in the south of England, for instance, from 1970 to 1995 snow and sleet fell for an average of 3.7 days, while from 1988 to 1995 the average was 0.7 days. London’s last substantial snowfall was in February 1991.

Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality by the international community. Average temperatures in Britain were nearly 0.6°C higher in the Nineties than in 1960-90, and it is estimated that they will increase by 0.2C every decade over the coming century. Eight of the 10 hottest years on record occurred in the Nineties.

However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.

So if we have less snow, it’s due to global warming. If we have more snow, it’s due to global warming. And on increased evaporation, as I noted last year, according to the U.S. EPA, there has not been a detectible rise in precipitation in the whole of the last century.

More tornadoes???? Climate “Science” Ethics Connects Them To Global Warming, Not Real Science!!!!!

From the really smart climate science guy who just laid out the case that the tornadoes are caused by Global Warming – Quote:

In other words, when science is applied to public policy where there is reasonable basis that some human activity is dangerous, science has an important role in communicating any scientifically plausible dangerous risks-not just proven facts.

As long as anyone is asking the question of whether there is a link between climate change and tornado damage because they want to know whether there is reason to limit greenhouse gas emissions, it is therefore ethically problematic to say there is no link

However, it is also ethically required to acknowledge that increased tornado damage and frequency are not yet proven.

Got That? Science doesn’t even show that there are more tornadoes now than there were a hundred years ago, yet there HAS TO BE BECAUSE THE MODELS PREDICT THERE SHOULD BE, AND IT’S UNETHICAL TO THINK OTHERWISE!!!

We did have a lot of tornadoes this year, maybe even a record, but the outbreak in 1974 may have been just as severe, or worse. Problem is, we didn’t have the kind of tornado detection equipment then that we have now, so it’s impossible to say if their were or weren’t more then than now. This also goes for hurricanes and other weather events. It’s a limitation of science the alarmist don’t want you to think about.

Press Snippets…. Tinny Words!

Share Button

From Walter Russel Mead:

Third, this President doesn’t do ‘tough’ very well. I am not saying he can’t be tough and decisive as a person; he can be. He has made decisions — on Afghanistan, on drone attacks in Pakistan and on the raid to get bin Laden — that were gutsy and hard, whether you agree or disagree with the choices he made. But he isn’t convincing as a Chuck Norris impersonator. Often when he tries to sound tough he comes out tinny.

The New York Time wrote this about Joe McGinness writing about Sarah Palin in his soon to be released book I won’t be reading called The Rogue:

It also says that she lacked boyfriends and was a racist. And it includes this: “A friend says, ‘Sarah and her sisters had a fetish for black guys for a while’ “.

Um… Can you be a woman racist and have a fetish / sleep with black guys who aren’t your slaves??? I’m just asking.

Though I have a certain amount of disdain for Mrs Palin, at least her qualifications for President, with the exception of Andrew Sullivan, I can’t think of anyone who would enjoy reading this sort of tabloid styled book.

Editing For Results – Does The Tea Party Audience Want People to Die?

Share Button

Here is the Headline:

Tea Party Debate Audience Cheers Idea Of Letting Sick Man Without Insurance Die

Translation… The Tea Party Are Monsters!!!!!

When presenting video or film, the editing process and decisions can have a huge impact on the emotion you want to evoke.  Today, we are provided with a perfect example. It’s politics, of course. Here is the set-up, compliments of TPM:

The last two Republican presidential debates have been some of the most macabre on record. Last time around, at the Reagan Library, the crowd gave the biggest applause of the night to the 234 executions that have occurred in Texas while Rick Perry was governor.

In Tampa, Florida at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate Monday night, the tea party-filled audience literally cheered aloud for the uninsured to be allowed to die.

The moment came during an exchange between moderator Wolf Blitzer and Ron Paul, whose libertarian views often make for good theater at Republican debates.

Blitzer asked if under Paul’s libertarian philosophy, a sick man without insurance should be allowed to die in the hospital rather than have the state pay his medical bills. Before Paul could answer that question, shouts of “yes!” and cheering bubbled up from the audience.

Here is the video they provide.

Note how it’s cut off. That’s important, because you only have a couple of “Yeah’s” and maybe five or six hand claps. But what happens after? Here is the full video:

The audience as a whole stirs with discomfort. They don’t show it, but you can hear it. TPM is being a bit disingenuous by suggesting the whole audience is agreeing with the few. It simply is not the case.

This isn’t an easy question, and I think both Blitzer and Paul handle it well. TPM? Not so much. You may not like Ron Paul’s answer, but he’s as steady as ever. They guy just doesn’t rattle easy.

PS. I am not a member of the Tea Party. i just don’t like misleading and dishonest video editing to score political points.

The Speech…. Bill… Outline….. Thingy.

Share Button

Let’s get this straight… this is not a “jobs” bill! This is just a way to try and get his beloved $250,000 tax hike passed.

It’s weird, on the one hand, he goes on and on about taxing millionaires and billionaire so they can pay their fair share. It’s fine class warfare rhetoric. If he put together a package that did that, and only that, where the tax rate increase STARTED at one million, I think he could get enough votes from Republicans in competitive districts to get it passed. I’m sure of it! But he just can’t let go of that $250,000 figure….

Why?????   It doesn’t make sense.

By proposing that over and over and over and over again, and failing every time, he just paints himself into ever deepening corner. It’s not hard for Republicans to point out that people who make $250,000 a year are not millionaires by any stretch of the imagination! I thought this guy was supposed to be smart and reasonable… You know… The adult in the room!
