Sexy Done Right!…. And Eew!
(Welcome Insta-P Readers! Always glad to get an Intsalanche – They’re not easy to come by)
Miss Jane Russell – RIP.
Now, contrast that with the latest from Lady Gaga. After the interesting first 23 seconds (good use of angles and shifting the axis of action), you might want to skip the weird and bizarre birthing of the “sthuper!” race video and go to the 3 minute mark of this one.
After being both fascinated and reviled by the pseudo-vagina laden opening, the first thing I thought was… “Jeez…. You really need to eat something!”. There is just nothing about LG that I could see as sexy, even if I wasn’t gay! (Yes Rob, I knew that comment was coming). I know she’s talented and people like her, but is this obvious rehash of a Madonna song supposed to be good?
So, in summary – One is hot and unfortunately now dead. The other…. Eww…..
LG makes me ashamed to be gay.
PS. Leave it to Jane Russell to alleviate that shame! Now this is gay done right!!!
Hat Tip: Dan B @ Gay Patriot.
I have written a follow-up post here.

Lady Gaga is like a girl robot they didn’t get quite right. Whenever I look at her, all I see that whole “uncanny valley” thing.
By PWT, March 1, 2011 @ 8:04 pm
She is Amy Winehouse sexy.
By spool32, March 1, 2011 @ 8:19 pm
LG is the female version of Marilyn Manson…
… not that there’s anything wrong with that!

My God, she’s recycling Madonna, who stole her schtick from the underground gay and club-kid clubs of NYC. So LG is recycling raised to the power of two. I guess the kiddies need something to waste their money on. In about ten years times there will be a head-slap moment for them, and the thought “My God, what was I thinking”.

Until Twiggy became the rage in the 60s, full figured women were considered voluptuous.
I was one of those voluptuous types.
Now, it seems that women are only considered pretty if they look as skeletal as Lady Gaga in that skeleton makeup.
How sad for normal girls.

Lady Gaga video (above) at 3:00 minute mark…double dog yuck. Re: the Jane Russell video. I read that toward the end. when the guys jump over her and they all go into the water, that it wasn’t supposed to happen. She got pushed into the water unexpectedly but just kept right on going. Another great one lost.
By Jimpithecus, March 1, 2011 @ 9:28 pm
It is not immediately clear to me that LG is talented.
By schizuki, March 1, 2011 @ 9:39 pm
Holy cripes – those dudes aren’t even noticing her, are they?
Still not as let’s-sneak-this-by-the-Hayes-Code-censors gay as the gun-handling scene in “Red River”, though.

LG is a marketing campaign with tits. Sexless and bloodless.

Nice, but this is even better…

Wow. That Jane Russell “Ain’t There Anyone Here for Love” video puts the “homo” in homoerotic. Those guys were definitely the pre-Vietnam version of buff.

Gaga looks like a robot doing calestenics. Not attractive, not sexy, and she doesn’t sing all that well, either. And the opening of that video… ewww. The whole thing was much more creepy than entertaining.
Is it too much to want singers who can actually sing well? And perform with a good bit of humor as Jane Russel did? We don’t need dance routines along with it – if I wanted to watch an exercise routine I’d find one on TV.

Plus Russell had, ya know, talent.
By Dave C., March 1, 2011 @ 11:11 pm
Agree totally. It’s called elegance, or more plainly, class. Jane Russell really had it, LG doesn’t.
By Quilly Mammoth, March 1, 2011 @ 11:11 pm
Imagine if Bette Midler looked like Jane? And _that’s_ how to wear a pants suit!

When did “judgment” become a bad word? I think this country needs more, and better judgment. How’s this for judgment: Lady Gaga is a boring rehash of two decades of pop culture cliches.

That song of LG’s reminds me so much of Madonna, it’s not funny. I think if I’d heard it without attribution, I would have thought it was a Madonna song.
But sadly, the difference is that Madonna was, hell, is both a prettier woman and a better dancer. And Wes has a point about there being something just ‘off’ about her. She gives me the creeps.
And Madonna ain’t no Jane Russell either.

Excellent use of humor to make your point, thanks for that.

Lady Gaga is simply not smart enough (“savvy enough” might be more accurate) to pull off what she’s trying to pull off.
By Sonicfrog, March 2, 2011 @ 1:44 am
Eeeww!
By Sonicfrog, March 2, 2011 @ 1:54 am
Hmmm…. Don’t remember that. Will have to look it up.

Born this way ? Compelling argument for birth control .

Thank you for this juxtaposition, which gives a refreshing exposure to mental health against some of today’s counterfeit performances. I think Wesley’s ‘girl robot’ remark is right on.

Jane Russell looks fat by today’s standard. Lady Gaga has a nice hourglass shape. She had good legs, a great stomah, and nice breasts. If you put Jane Russell in the same bikini that Lady Gaga is wearing, you would see plenty of blubber rolls.
But really, you just can’t compare them. There was a different standard of beauty back then.
By MrJest, March 2, 2011 @ 5:43 am
OMG. I just realized that Jane Russel is my wife.
No, seriously – the same body, the same eyes – a tendency to flash a more brilliant smile more frequently, but still…
wow. I am humbled.
And Sonicfrog… you are awesome. Keep it up; the world needs more common sense!!! 🙂

lady gagme is as sexy as 2 pounds of vomit
in a 1 pound bag
By hiitsme, March 2, 2011 @ 6:26 am
Excellent comparison! Thanks.
One more thing….I mean this in the nicest manner. No snark intended. Looked up the meaning and use of the word “reviled.”
By bandit, March 2, 2011 @ 1:22 pm
Not a fan but I think GaGa’s been pretty successful with the minimal talent she’s got by recycling the same crap that was around since the ’80’s. Now Ke$ha’s a different story.

Why all of this hatred toward GaGa? I saw her in DC last Thursday, and as someone who has been going to music performances of all genres since 1973, I have to say that was one of the top 3 shows that I have ever seen and heard. LGG is a virtuoso musician and song writer, mixes an amazing number of cultural forms and references together, and can rock like a hurricane. Imagine Jerry Lee Lewis doing his thing on a piano, that is incidentally ON FIRE, with 13″ heels on, and that is only one number. I dearly loved Jane Russell (especially in “Macao”), but she became a star chiefly because of her physical attributes. It is also quite possible that is not even her voice singing in the films. GaGa never lip syncs on stage and you can tell. Jane didn’t choreograph the scenes shown here, design the costumes or write the music. With all of that being said, “Born Into This” is not LGG’s strongest stuff, but give her time…she’s only 25. Folks, lighten up and enjoy the NOW.

Very good counter-point. I think I’ll build a post around this.
Stay tuned!
(ha ha… get it?)

I’ve heard there are comparisons musically to Madonna’s “Express Yourself”
Here’s that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVcUzP_O_8
Oh dear froggy where is your outrage over that abuse of the male image? =P
By Sonicfrog, March 30, 2011 @ 5:35 pm
Meh… I stopped caring long long ago!
