Anybody Seen Sonicfrog Lately??? (and the new old song I’m trying to learn on guitar)

Yeah.. I’ve been real busy. But I’m not complaining.

Work has been picking up lately. That’s a very good thing. I even had to cancel Taylor Martin practice… Twice!

But, like I say, it’s because I’m working more, and that’s a good thing!

As for the song. When I was playing bass, there was one song I wanted to learn to play above all other, and that was Dire Straits “Sultans Of Swing“. I remember trying to play it and getting very frustrated because it just sounded so easy, yet, as I often forget even today, nothing in art is ever as easy as it looks. Take painting. It looks easy, but it’s not. Even the most talented of artists must spend some time practicing to perfect their skill. That also applies of course to playing bass. I remember trying to play to the record… never did get the CD of the first album for some reason… And I’d get close, but couldn’t quite get the note changes as smooth as the record.

Then, one day, it happened. I put on the record, picked up the bass.. And… Crap… I Can Play It!!!!!

Granted, it wasn’t perfect, and my timing was not quite where it should be, but it was pretty damned close, and, for the first time ever, I could play a song ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!!!!!!

Man, I was SOOOOOOOO jazzed.

So…

You probably have an idea what the “new old song” is that I’m learning on guitar…

Yep! The very same “Sultans Of Swing”. OK, first I will say that I can already get through a few song on the six string, and I’ve been playing bass for 25 plus years, so I’m not starting from the blank slate I was when I first learned the bass line to SOS all those years ago. AND, the guitar on that song is MUCH HARDER to play on guitar than it is on bass. Trust me on this!

It will, I fully expect, be a long while before I can have the song anywhere near presentable to the general public. But I do today, at this very moment, swear that one day, within the next two years or less… hopefully less…. I will get on stage and play “sultans Of Swing” on my guitar….
