Favorite Guitar Solos Found On Youtube #2 (From the “Cliff, You want it? You got it!” files)

My San Diego / RareForm guitarist Cliff suggested this artist. From Trevor Rabin: “Something To Hold On To!”. Me and a college friend used to talk about how disgusting it was to see musicians who have the complete package – great voice, mad virtuosic talents, is a master behind the mixing board,… oh, and has great looks to boot! Trev was on top of our “must hate because he’s too good” list (as was yesterdays featured artist Steve Lukather). Wonderful technique. His tone sparkles with fun and enthusiasm. The South African native has a very unique style and train of thought when it comes to phrasing. He simply fun to listen to!

Like another fine musician / producer named Trevor (Horn, also a YES alum) Rabin is known for throwing the kitchen sink into recordings. At 2:13 in, I swear he threw the “computer start-up beep” into the mix. I could be wrong, but it sure sounds like it.

Thanks for the vid. Forgot about that one. You can really hear his influence with Yes on this tune. The guy is just a great musician. Now that he is doing movie soundtracks, he is often forgotten about in “who is the best guitar player?” conversations and polls.

All these years, I thought I was the only person in America who had ever heard that Trevor Rabin song, let alone bought the CD…

What, you wait all this time, when I’ve had a great record of getting things right, and the one little slip-up, BAM, you come in and drag me down!!!!! 🙂
