Tony Snow, RIP
Tony Snow has lost his long battle to cancer. One of the comments from this blog asks: “One wonders if Tony will get as much coverage as did Tim Russert. I’d bet not, since Tony wasn’t a lefty.” While I’m not a fan of the whole “lefty / righty” thing, I do think the question is is interesting. But the answer is obvious. Of coarse he won’t. He worked for Fox News, which does not have the percieve prestige that NBC News has (had).

While I think it’s rather ghoulish to be worrying about this so soon after the man’s passing, I have to say it’s not nearly as cut and dried an issue as prestige or where they fell on the political spectrum.
Russert’s death was sudden and unexpected. Snow was diagnosed with a particularly nasty form of cancer in 2005. On a base level, and aside from all judgment, people have had time to get used to Snow’s passing. The frenzy of mourning surrounding Russert was typical of a sudden, unexpected loss and friends, family and colleagues trying to come to grips with it. It was only notable in that those friends, family and colleagues happened to have access to on-air time in which to do their grieving and acceptance.

Yes, I agree. I have a friend who’s dad just passed suddenly. He was in perfect health. What a shock it must have been. My dad had emphysema and we had years to prepare for his death a couple of years ago.
